The vibrant festival of Baisakhi was celebrated with fervour and gaiety in Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, on Friday,12 April 2024 to imbibe the values of every culture in children. Through thoughtfully curated activities, students were encouraged to explore and celebrate cultural diversity while commemorating the spirit of Baisakhi. The rhythmic beats of the dhol welcomed students, setting the tone for an engaging and immersive experience. The students of Preschool to grades II came dressed in traditional attire to mark the occasion and carried back home memories in the form of self-made crafts. The students of grades III-V were shown a video on the importance and significance of celebrating Baisakhi’s cultural heritage. This helped them learn more about India’s festivals and later they created stick puppets and cards in their SDP periods. Meanwhile, older students, dressed in vibrant Punjabi outfits, delved into the various aspects of Baisakhi, gaining a deeper appreciation for its cultural significance.
Heritage Week Celebrations

World Heritage Day is a momentous occasion to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and historical landmarks that define our global heritage. This year, the school embarked on a journey to explore and commemorate some of the world’s most iconic heritage sites and cultural practices. Virtual Tour of the Taj Mahal: Our virtual tour of the Taj Mahal transported the students of Classes IV and V to the banks of the Yamuna River in Agra, India. Through immersive technology, students marveled at the intricate marble architecture, lush gardens, and poignant love story behind this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Heritage Poster: To encapsulate the essence of World Heritage Day, students of Classes VIII and IX collaborated to create a vibrant heritage poster. The poster showcased iconic landmarks from around the world, symbolizing unity in diversity. Sikkim Tribal Mask Making: In honor of indigenous cultures, students of Classes VI and VII engaged in the art of Sikkim tribal mask making. Through hands-on activities, students explored various techniques and designs, gaining a deeper understanding of Sikkim’s rich cultural heritage. Traditional Dress-Up:Draped in colorful garments and adorned with traditional accessories, students of Class III embraced the beauty of cultural diversity through dress-up activities. From saris to kurta pajamas, each ensemble reflected the unique identity of different cultures of India. Through this interactive experience, students celebrated the myriad of customs and traditions that define our heritage. Culinary Diversity: Food is an integral part of cultural identity, and our culinary diversity station allowed students of Class IV to savor flavors from around the country. Students indulged in a feast of cultural delicacies, learning about the ingredients, cooking methods, and culinary traditions associated with each dish. Heritage Brochure: To spread awareness and foster appreciation for world heritage, students of Classes VIII-X crafted a heritage brochure. Filled with captivating images, historical anecdotes, and preservation efforts, the brochure served as a guide to understanding and safeguarding our cultural legacy. Heritage Pledge: As stewards of our cultural heritage, students of Classes III-XII took a solemn pledge to protect and preserve our shared legacy. With hand over heart, they vowed to honor the past, cherish the present, and safeguard the future of our world’s cultural treasures. This pledge served as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard our heritage for generations to come.
MAGIC SHOW

Magic is a performing art that entertains the audience through seemingly impossible feats conducted by the use of tricks, illusions, sleight of hand and well practiced moves. A Magic Show was organised for the new Nursery kids of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar. The magician performed several tricks on stage which left the children astonished and mesmerized. He called up a few children on stage and performed astounding tricks with them. The children remained glued to the show till the end. This helped the children amplify their observation skills and concentration. The children were thoroughly entertained.

Little smiles, big celebrations! Tiny tots joyfully embraces Baisakhi festivities

The little ones of Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar celebrated Baisakhi on 12 April , 2024, with great enthusiasm. The objective was to teach the young students about the significance of the festival in the lives of farmers. They dressed up in vibrant Punjabi outfits, danced to Punjabi beats, and shared popcorn with friends. The celebration aimed to familiarize the children with the rich culture and heritage of Punjab. These engaging activities left the students cheerful and fostered a strong sense of connection among them.
“Unveiling Worlds Within Words: A Storytelling Odyssey” #classNursery

An exciting storytelling session was organised in Pre-primary department featuring the classic tale of “The Thirsty Crow.” The facilitator kicked off the storytelling session by gathering the children in a cozy circle and introducing them to the story’s characters and setting. Using simple language and engaging gestures, they brought the story to life, capturing the children’s attention and sparking their imagination. Throughout the storytelling, the children actively participated by answering questions, making predictions, and suggesting solutions to the crow’s problems. This interactive approach not only kept the children engaged but also encouraged critical thinking and empathy. It was heart-warming to see how the story had resonated with them, as they talked about helping others and finding creative solutions to challenges.
“Step into Sensation: A Journey for the Senses!” #Kindergarten #littleexplorers

The teachers gathered the students in a designated area of the playground and explained the purpose of the sensory walk. They encouraged the students to use their senses of touch, sight, hearing, and smell to explore the environment. The teachers divided the students into small groups and accompanied them to different sensory stations. They guided the students through the activities, encouraging them to interact with the environment and describe their experiences. At each sensory station, the students were encouraged to actively engage their senses. They were asked to touch different textures, identify different smells, listen to nature sounds, and observe colours and shapes. After completing the sensory walk, the students gathered to reflect on their experiences. They shared their observations and discussed what they had learned during the walk. The sensory walk in the pre-primary department was a valuable learning experience for the students. It provided them with an opportunity to explore their senses in a natural environment and learn about the world around them. Such sensory activities are essential for the holistic development of young children and should be incorporated into the curriculum regularly.
‘Tug of War’ Inter-class Competition

School organised ‘Tug of War’ Inter-class Competition on April 5, 2024, at the School Greens. Participants included students from Classes IX and X. Students witnessed an exhilarating display of strength, teamwork, and sportsmanship during the event, showcasing the competitive spirit and unity. Visit to Ashoka University

On 28 March 2024, a visit was made to Ashoka University located in Sonipat, Haryana. 25 students of class XII and 2 teachers, Ms. Ravneet Kaur and Sh. Vinod Thakur, visited the university. The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into the academic offerings, facilities, and overall atmosphere of the university. On reaching the university, students were taken to the mess for sumptuous breakfast. It was followed by a small presentation about the university. Ashoka University follows the liberal education system where in the students can choose to attain undergraduate degree in one major and the subjects which interest them. Introduction about the admission process was given. It was followed by a university tour where the students were taken around the campus. They were shown the residential area in the campus, the classrooms, laboratories, sports area and other facilities available to the students within the campus which included salon, food stalls and outlets, gym facilities, etc. The university tour was followed by lunch in the university mess. The visit to Ashoka University provided students and teachers with valuable insights into the institution’s academic ethos, facilities, and campus life. It served as an enriching experience, fostering curiosity and appreciation for liberal education principles. Students expressed enjoyment and gratitude for the opportunity to explore Ashoka University’s campus. They found the visit informative and inspiring, igniting interest in pursuing higher education in a liberal arts environment.
Excursion to Jim Corbett

Classes Involved: VI-IX and XI An educational excursion stands as a beacon of innovative learning, championing experiential education. Venturing into the wild, 40 students from classes VI to XII, accompanied by 4 teachers, embarked on an exhilarating expedition to Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand, spanning from 18 March to 20 March, 2024, crafting unforgettable memories and nurturing holistic growth. The aim behind the excursion is to ignite curiosity, instill environmental awareness, and cultivate a deep appreciation for biodiversity and conservation efforts. The trip to Jim Corbett National Park, Hanuman Dham, Garjiya Mandir, and Jim Corbett Museum was a memorable and educational experience for teachers and students alike. Each member of the group gained valuable knowledge about wildlife, culture, history, and conservation efforts. Such trips not only broaden our horizons but also instil a sense of responsibility towards our environment and heritage.
