Republic Day Activities

Primary students (Classes III-V) engaged in Republic Day activities on Thursday, 25 January 2024, emphasizing the constitution’s principles: unity in diversity, justice, liberty, and equality. 1. Tricolour Batch making activity-The activity instilled a sense of patriotism and a fervour of being a proud Indian in our students. The students felt extremely elated wearing those batches and their excitement showed on their faces while going home to show their batches to their parents. 2. Letter Writing-Students of Class V wrote a letter to the Prime Minister and the President of India, thanking them for their inspiration and contributions towards the nation’s progress and glory.

“Rendezvous with Self: Puberty Workshop”

  The “Rendezvous with Self: Puberty Workshop” was conducted for students of grades V to VII by Ms. Ankita Sukhwal from Unicharm. Separate session for boys and girls were conducted on 30 January for class V and 06 February 2024 for classes VI and VII. The sessions aimed to help children understand and cope with the physical and emotional changes of puberty, addressing their curiosity and concerns about growing up. Topics covered included body positivity, human physiology, puberty versus adolescence, the reproductive system’s function, physical and emotional changes specific to boys and girls, changing interpersonal relationships, self-care during puberty, safe touch versus unsafe touch versus unwanted The session  about menstrual hygiene entailed a comprehensive understanding on the what, why and how of menstruation comprising its meaning, developing a biological understanding, discussion on social taboos and most importantly, awareness of hygiene practices to be maintained during menstrual cycle. This endeavour by the school helped the girls to develop a better awareness of themselves and remove their inhibitions. The students found the workshop engaging and informative. The Q and A session was very effective and students came out with many queries.  

Future Tech Olympiad 2.0

  The Future Tech Olympiad 2.0, organised by 1M1B with backing from IBM, and CBSE, aimed to deepen students’ comprehension of modern technologies. About 118 participants from classes VII to XI of Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar  engaged in online tests, covering Digital Citizenship, AI, Machine Learning, AR, VR Development, Blockchain, and IoT in Business and Industry. This endeavour not only ignited students’ passion but also equipped them to spearhead innovation. Each participant will receive certificates, signifying their journey toward actively shaping the technological landscape. This initiative serves as a pivotal step in preparing the youth to lead in a tech-driven world, fostering a culture of innovation and progress.  

THE VISIT TO INDIA INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE FESTIVAL (IISF) 2023

The India International Science Festival (IISF) represents a synergistic effort involving the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Department of Space, and Department of Atomic Energy. This collaborative initiative was conducted in partnership with Vijnana Bharati, a science movement led by the nation’s scientists imbued with a spirit of indigenous innovation. The school organized a trip for 61 students of classes IX and XI It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to witness a wide range of achievement in the fields of science, technology and innovation by the country. The core aim of the India International Science Festival (IISF) is to celebrate the realm of science and ensures its accessibility to everyone. The fundamental concept is to involve the general populace in science through enjoyable and entertaining means, fostering contributions to health, prosperity, and a meaningful life. Through innovative programs and initiatives, it was a platform for both the public and the scientific community, fostering collaboration and participation in the collective endeavour to advance scientific pursuits for the betterment of India and humanity, both domestically and internationally. Shri Manohar Lal Khattar ji, Chief minister of Haryana, as the esteemed Chief Guest for the occasion emphasized the boundless benefits that science offers to society without any discrimination. He recognized the importance of science in shaping the future, he expressed his commitment to further integrate science with society through a significant announcement. The exhibits at the hall of science through games and toys acted like a bridge in making the subjects more accessible and enjoyable and instilled in them passion for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) at this young age. Our enthusiastic children participated in on-the-spot activities and won prizes. The event proved to be highly educational for the young participants. The festival inspired our young minds and developed in them fundamental scientific principles, also fostered curiosity and critical thinking.        

Online session on “Unleashing the Power of Science-The Exciting Way”

Salwan Education Trust organized an online interactive session titled “Unleashing the Power of Science – The Exciting Way” for students of classes IV-X. Ten students actively participated on Zoom, while others tuned in via YouTube. Padam Shri (Dr.) Arvind Kumar Gupta, the eminent speaker, demonstrated activity-based models using everyday materials. His encouragement for students to create knowledge through designing toys highlighted the practical aspect of science education. The session emphasized that science and math concepts can be effectively taught through simple toys, offering a hands-on approach in contrast to textbook-centric learning. The session highlighted the importance of play and fun in learning, asserting that only through play can students truly discover. The initiative is commendable for bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, offering a more meaningful and enjoyable learning journey. Bringing such approaches into mainstream teaching would undoubtedly enhance the overall educational experience.      

Training programme on Environment

    A training programme on Environment in collaboration with Sony BBC was organized by Eco club on 09 January 2024 in the school premises. The program aimed at fostering environmental awareness among the students. Value-based engagement unfolded through enlightening video content, elucidating various environmental facets. This was followed by an interactive quiz assessing participants’ comprehension of the showcased content, rewarding winners with exciting goodies. The pinnacle of the event was a captivating live demonstration featuring a Do-It-Yourself Bonsai Activity. Students immersed themselves in the artistry of crafting miniature bonsai, learning practical techniques under expert guidance. The amalgamation of felicitation, insightful video content, an engaging quiz, and a hands-on bonsai session enriched the event, leaving students inspired and equipped with newfound environmental perspectives. This comprehensive session served as a catalyst for fostering a deeper connection with nature while instilling valuable insights on environmental preservation.

EMOTIONAL WELLBEING AND STRESS MANAGEMENT

  Student wellbeing encompasses the overall health of a student, including their social, mental, physical, and emotional health. Enjoyment and satisfaction with life are inextricably tied to student well-being. In a nutshell, student wellbeing is the way they perceive themselves and their life. Supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of students at school provides a strong foundation for academic achievement as well as positive intrapersonal and interpersonal long-term outcomes. The board examination is round the corner and fear of not performing well causes great anxiety among the students. It is important for students to be in a calm state of mind and to deal with any emotion that may be causing distress, during examination. To overcome the stress and anxiety caused during exams and competitions, an interactive workshop on stress management and exam anxiety was organised on 12th January 2024 for students of Grade X and XII.   The objective of the workshop was to equip the young aspirants of X and XII with the skills and strategies to manage exam stress, educate them in  various ways with which they can deal with the stress and most importantly, be at ease and confident for the upcoming board examination.  While addressing the students, Dr. Preeti said that anxiety is a part of human nature, but it is important to know how to overcome it. In the interactive session, she talked about the types of stress and how to deal with them by giving real life examples, to help students relate and understand. She also emphasized on the stress relaxation therapies like practicing yoga, walking and any other recreational activities                                .  She dealt at length with the ‘three Ps i.e. Planning, Preparation and Practice to help overcome any challenges and highlighted the importance of being organised in life with a well-defined goal.  She explained the students about the stress management, she said that the students should always share their problems with someone they trust. She also suggested them to be interactive during the session and ask questions fearlessly. The students shared their issues with regards to concentration and focus and got their questions effectively answered. This session, thus provided an opportunity to share and practice how to prevent and manage the stress during examination. The session came to an end and helped the students in generating self-awareness and positivity among them and deals with exam stress like winners. A note to parents and students was also sent regarding counselling and wellbeing of the students.        

Workshop on 3D Magic Pen

    A free workshop on 3D Magic Pen was organized by Innvomindz on 06 December 2023. A 3D printing pen is a handheld device that allows users to create three-dimensional objects by extruding heated plastic material. It functions somewhat similarly to a conventional pen or pencil but enables users to draw and create objects in three dimensions. These pens usually use thermoplastic filaments that are heated within the pen and cooled almost instantly when they come out, allowing users to create freehand designs. STEAM education often incorporates innovative tools and technology to engage students in hands-on learning experiences. The benefits of a 3D MAGIC PEN base camp are endless for students: – Exposure to innovative techniques – Development of crucial mental skills – Stress reduction and heightened focus – A gateway to creativity and self-expression   The program was a fruitful session that will help students to spark their creativity and get them thinking outside the box.  

‘Veer Baal Diwas’

    The Government of India has chosen to annually commemorate 26 December as “Veer Baal Diwas” to honour the extraordinary valour and sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji, the younger sons of the tenth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar celebrated the occasion with diverse activities like an animated movie showcase, storytelling, a wall of appreciation with Thank You Cards, a comprehensive morning assembly, digital exhibitions, and art club engagements for students. Training Programme on Namami Gange

A training programme on Namami Gange in collaboration with IIPA was organised by Eco club on 15 December 2023 in the school premises. The programme unfolded as an enlightening exploration of the Ganga’s depth and significance. Dr. Shyamli Singh’s keynote address elucidated the crucial role of Namami Gange in preserving the sacred river. Engaging presentations, including “Ganga’s Serenade: A Watery Tale” and insights by Ms. Anugya Singh and Ms. Monika Saini, highlighted cultural, ecological, and technological facets. The interactive sessions fostered student engagement, emphasizing their pivotal role in conservation efforts. The event culminated in vibrant performances like the “Ganga Anthem,” “Kartavya Song,” and insightful discussions. Overall, the workshop facilitated a holistic comprehension of the Ganga’s significance, inspiring a sense of responsibility and active involvement among attendees in preserving this revered river.
