Observance of ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’
Substance abuse and illicit trafficking have come out as two major challenges worldwide today. Starting early and educating children about the risks and consequences of substance use and abuse is crucial in promoting a healthy and drug-free lifestyle. Government of India has adopted a vision for a ‘DRUG FREE INDIA’ which reiterates India’s resolve to fight against the use of drugs and eradicate the menace of substance abuse form the society. In continuation with the same, on account of ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ observed on 26 June 2023, the following online programs/ competitions were organized by Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar for students of classes IX to XII from 12 June to 26 June 2023: An e-pledge campaign named ‘Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs’ Short videos on substance abuse and its consequences A story writing competition A slogan writing competition A poster designing competition on the topic ‘Drug-Free India’ Through these fun, yet meaningful activities and competitions, a deeper understanding of the consequences of drug abuse and the importance of promoting a drug-free environment was grasped. The event also served as an excellent platform to foster creativity while spreading a critical message to combat substance abuse.
Investiture Ceremony
The Investiture Ceremony at Salwan Public School was a significant event where young leaders were recognized and given roles in the Student Council. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Chief Guest, Shri Bharat Salhotra, who is the Honourable Chairperson of SPSMV. Throughout his career, he has been a visionary advocate for education. The Honourable Director, Brigadier Dr. AK Tyagi, and Principal, Smt. Capt. Richa Sharma Katyal (Retd), congratulated the student selected as the Flagbearer of the session. They motivated all the students to approach their roles with sincerity and dedication, encouraging them to take the institution to greater heights. The ceremony was made even more enchanting by the melodious rendition performed by the school choir. Additionally, a talk show was organized on the theme ‘Leadership from All Walks of Life.’ This initiative aimed to instill leadership qualities among students and empower them to carve their own path and turn their dreams into reality. During the ceremony, the students took an oath and expressed their gratitude to the school for entrusting them with such responsibilities. They embraced their new roles with confidence and determination. Finally, the ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Vice Principal, Smt. Bhawna Puri, expressing gratitude to all the participants and attendees.
Mother’s Day Celebration
Mother’s Day is an occasion to celebrate the unconditional love and sacrifices of mothers. The day was celebrated at SPS, MV with a lot of meaningful and fun activities. Students of classes III-V made a coupon book for their mothers. It contained vouchers for chores, hugs, and quality time with their children. The students of VI- XII had a great time building intricate collages of their most memorable pictures with their mother. It was a heart-warming sight to see the young learners reminiscing over the beautiful, funny and adventurous moments they have shared with their mother. Health and Wellness Program in CBSE Affiliated Schools
To advance on the successful implementation of the School Health and Wellness Programme (SHWP) in all 29,000 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools, and in partnership with CBSE and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), UNESCO organized the second training session of Master Trainers on 1-5 May at NCERT premises. Dr. Preeti Jain, the school Counsellor was designated as “Health and Wellness Ambassador and was trained to transact with school children, health promotion and disease prevention information on 11 thematic areas in the form of interesting joyful interactive activities. She is now a CBSE trainer who will further train the teachers. Senior officials and dignitaries from NCERT and CBSE, including Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director NCERT; Prof. Sridhar Srivastava, Joint Director NCERT; Dr Zoya Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; and Prof. Saroj Yadav, Former Dean (Academic) NCERT, were also present at the inaugural training session.
Paying Taxes (Nukkad Natak)
As part of community service program, Gandhi House organized a Nukkad Natak enlightening the audience on the importance of paying taxes. Through the skit, students of classes X and XI very effectively highlighted the problems and apprehensions a common man faces regarding paying taxes in the country- why should one pay taxes, where does the money go? What good does one personally get out of it? The skit also spelled out the solutions to it, the bottom line being- it is the duty of all to pay taxes and do their bit for the country’s growth and progress. It also brought to the forefront the importance of having a trust-building between the government and its people for there to be extreme honesty in the system. Overall, it was a very well-received act, which alongside entertaining the audience, proved to be highly educative in its subject matter.
Cyber Wellness Program
In this digital world where children are increasingly wired to social media and the internet, the concerns of Cyber security, Cyber bullying, Cyber hygiene are pertinent. An informative session about Cyber Security was conducted by the computer department on 03rd May 2023 on the topic- Cyber Wellness. Students were astonished to know the threats of cyber world in today era. Faculty members of computer department discussed about the trending apps and games. Children were told about the legal aspects of accessing the internet like the legal age, ethics and rules of using social media and gaming. They were advised to handle real and virtual life judiciously. The faculty members demonstrated live hacking and made them aware about various ways like two-step verification, comment control, using a strong password, etc that they can adopt in order to avoid Cyber Crimes.Students participated in the session heartily. They made posters on cyber security and took part in discussions too.

Baisakhi Celebrations
The vibrant festival of Baisakhi was celebrated in Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, on 13th April 2023 to imbibe in our children the values and ethos of every culture and community and to make them aware of the spring harvest festival in all its essence. Well-planned activities to acquaint the students with this harvest festival were conducted at all levels. The activities were consciously designed to nurture the students’ curiosity about Baisakhi and stimulate their creative skills in gaiety. The school premises wore a festive look with the compound decorated with items depicting the heritage of Punjab. The students were welcomed with the beats of dhol, which brought vibrancy to the environment. The students of Preschool 1 and 2 came dressed in traditional attire to mark the occasion and carried back home memories in the form of self-made craft. They made impressions of the maize plant through finger painting. Students of classes I and II were clad in traditional Punjabi outfits that added to the feel of the festive occasion. They were told about the various aspects of this harvest festival and participated in a kite making activity. Together with their teachers, they matched steps to the vigorous rhythms that are customary at this time. Students of classes III – V were shown an audio-visual clip related to the significance of Baisakhi and highlighting the establishment of Khalsa Panth in Punjab. They composed drawings on the theme incorporating the colours associated with the festival. Students of classes VI-VIII dabbled with the colours of Baisakhi and joyfully expressed their creativity. A special assembly was arranged for the students of classes IX-XII, wherein they were told about the significance of Baisakhi and the various ways by which people celebrate this great harvesting festival all over India. Finally, the drummers went to the Primary as well as the Senior Wing and the students danced to the tunes of bhangra.
Magic Show
A magic show was organized for the students of classes I and II.The magician performed several tricks on stage which left the children astonished and mesmerized. The students watched the show with great curiosity and were amazed to witness the magic tricks. The children were thoroughly entertained and their laughter and cheerful faces proved the success of the event.
Welcoming Kids
A cheerful welcome helps kids children for a positive start to their school journey. To make this new journey of Session 2023-24 more exciting, successful and happy, Pre-Primary department organized *”WELCOME DAY”* on *4 April 2023* for our Pre-school 1 students, who have entered to our school campus.The tiny tots enjoyed the day to the utmost and got their hand prints engrossed on sheets with colourful paints. They clicked pictures in a photo frame wherein students enthusiastically got their first day registered in a beautiful frame. At the end, they bid goodbye to the class teacher and she gave them chocolates with love and care. It was an amazing experience to see the lovely smiling faces. They were thrilled and excited to come to school everyday as they got so much love and attention on their first day.
