Women Empowerment in the Energy Sector

A session on Women’s Empowerment in the Energy Sector was conducted for Year XII Science students on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, at Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar. The session was led by two distinguished speakers: Mr Ramakrishnan Atreya, Research Associate, and Ms Leena Begam M A, Project Associate at FSR Global.
Key discussions included an overview of the energy sector, encompassing topics such as energy supply, production, and climate-related challenges. The session also highlighted the increasing representation of women in the energy sector, which has risen from 22% to 35.9%. Strategies to further enhance female participation were explored, including flexible working hours, reservations, skill development, and greater awareness of labour market opportunities.
The speakers provided insights into skill mapping and employment prospects in areas such as grid infrastructure, machine learning, data analysis, electricity markets, and database management. The session was interactive and engaging, offering valuable takeaways for both students and educators.
The session was efficiently coordinated by Dr Preeti Jain, School Counsellor and Ms Seema Nagpal (PGT Physics), who served as the teacher in-charges. Their meticulous planning and facilitation ensured a smooth and enriching learning experience for all participants.
Ms Leena encouraged students to explore a wide range of seminars and career opportunities in the energy sector to enable informed and purposeful decision-making.
