World Zoonoses Day

To commemorate World Zoonoses Day, Salwan Public School, Mayur Vihar, organised a week-long sensitisation programme aimed at educating students about zoonotic diseases—infectious illnesses transmitted between animals and humans through direct contact or contaminated food, water, or surroundings.

Throughout the week, awareness talks were conducted during morning assemblies and classroom sessions, covering essential topics such as the nature and causes of zoonoses, common examples like rabies and avian influenza, modes of transmission, and preventive measures. In light of the increasing number of dog bite incidents, students were also guided on safe behaviour around stray or unfamiliar animals, along with protocols for reporting potentially dangerous animals in their communities. These sessions not only built awareness but also fostered empathy and responsible citizenship.

A poster-making activity further reinforced key messages, allowing students to creatively express their understanding. The posters, displayed across the school, encouraged peer learning and continued dialogue.

The initiative effectively broadened students’ understanding of health as a holistic concept—interlinking human well-being, animal safety, and environmental care.
