‘Nurturing Young Minds to Innovate Sustainably for a Better Tomorrow’

On Wednesday, 23 December 2025, a workshop on ‘The Role of Schools in Sustainability Education’ was organised by the 1M1B Future Skills Roundtable under the tagline ‘Nurturing Young Minds to Innovate Sustainably for a Better Tomorrow’. The session featured Ms. Ruchi Khanna and Ms. Shreejaa as the resource persons, with the panel discussion moderated by Ms. Ruchi Khanna, Program Lead at IBM. The discussion focused on building environmentally conscious innovators and highlighted the crucial role of schools in sustainability education. Emphasis was laid on practical and future-ready approaches to environmental responsibility, including in-school waste management practices such as segregation, composting, and recycling, especially in areas where municipal systems are ineffective. The panel also discussed how undergraduate students are contributing to sustainability through research, campus initiatives, and community engagement. IBM’s role in promoting sustainability through technology-driven learning, innovation, and skill development aligned with sustainable goals was highlighted. A key takeaway was the shift of sustainability education from being treated as a co-curricular activity to becoming an integral part of the core curriculum. Students from various DAV branches showcased innovative AI-based pitches on topics like healthy habits and safe driving in hilly areas, reflecting creativity, awareness, and readiness to evolve into future sustainable researchers.
