National Progressive School Conference – Shaping Minds for Life Beyond Classrooms.

The 53rd National Progressive School Conference was held at the India International Centre (IIC), Lodhi Road, from 05 February to 06 February 2026. The conference was attended by Shri Sanjeev Rai and Smt. Ranjana Ratra. The theme of the event, ‘Vidya for Life – Schools as Catalysts for Skills, Values and Innovation,’ highlighted the transformative role of schools in nurturing holistic, value-based education.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Pawan K. Verma, Member of Parliament and IFS (Retd.), emphasised that true education goes beyond the accumulation of knowledge and should enable students to think independently and overcome the fear of failure.

Four sessions held on Day 1 focused on skill development, moral values, competency-based education, multilingualism at the foundational stage, the establishment of skill labs, and the use of AI in education and administration. Mr. Rahul Singh, Chairman, CBSE, spoke on competency-based education, while Mr. Bhatnagar, Advisor at SIIC, discussed future job trends, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, vocational training, and the need for AI labs in schools.

Day 2 began with an inaugural address by Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, who spoke on the purpose of schooling as preparing students to engage thoughtfully with the world. He stressed that schools must teach students how to think rather than what to think, especially in an AI-driven future.

A panel discussion on ‘Beyond Rules and Rights’ emphasised ethical citizenship, moral values, self-discipline, and mental well-being. Dr. Uma Tulli highlighted inclusive education, while the final session on ‘Policy to Practice’ focused on future-ready schools, internships, and reducing examination pressure.

The conference concluded with a cultural performance, ‘Mystic Land,’ by Nair Academy.
