MATHS TOWN - Fictional Story by Ashnoor Kaur(Class VII-B)

The City of Four Operations!

Once upon a time, there was a town named MATHEMATICS, popularly known as ‘Maths Town’. In Maths Town, there was a city named ‘Four Operations’. The palace of the royal family was special because each name had a deep meaning. In this city,

1) The king’s name was ‘Subtraction’: He was very kind and couldn’t survive harsh words or bad things. Whenever someone did any bad act or a crime, he subtracted that person from the city.

2) The queen’s name was ‘Addition‘: She kept adding her beauty and was very gorgeous.

3) The prince’s name was ‘Multiplication’: He kept multiplying his deeds and always got a very nice product.

4) The princess’ name was ‘Division’: She kept dividing her knowledge and was the cleverest person in the entire city.

The royal family loved each other a lot and had a deep bond amongst themselves. Whenever they sat together, they were fondly popular as DMAS.

Spread of Disease!

One day, out of nowhere, a disease spread all over the city. Since everyone was suffering from this disease, the king invited all of them to his palace and stayed like a huge joint family. But, a person named ‘Equals To’ had a problem staying and eating together. So, he decided not to go to the palace and stay in his home. ‘Equals To’ didn’t contribute towards recovery from the disease in the city. Since he never went to the palace, the king decided to give him a punishment for this rude and cold behaviour.

When the day of punishment came, ‘Equals To’ booked a boat and ran away to another city, named ‘Story Sums’.

The City of Story Sums!

The name of the king of this city was ‘Solutions’. He was very powerful. When ‘Equals To’ entered the king’s court, the king said that ‘Equals To’ couldn’t live in his city because in the Story Sums city, all were named ‘Questions’ except the king to showcase the power of the king. The people of Story Sums city were very curious to keep ‘Equals To’ in their city, but they couldn’t do so because of the strict rules of their city.

‘Equals To’ was stubborn and was determined to stay in this city. The king was left with no choice but to send the Questions’ army to beat him. ‘Equals To’ raised the white flag very soon admitting his defeat. The king also gave him a punishment that he should always stand at the end of every solution because he was too lazy.

Return to the Four Operations City!

The king of Story Sums city sent ‘Equals To’ back to the Four Operations city. Upon return of ‘Equals To’ to the Four Operations city, ‘Solutions’ still kept an eye on him. ‘Equals To’ changed himself and started working very hard. He became a very well-behaved and hard-working person. Everyone in the city started to like him. As ‘Equals To’ was working very hard, the King of Four Operations, ‘Subtraction’ noticed his hard work and was indeed very happy with him.

Also, the King of Story Sums, ‘Solutions’, was glad to see ‘Equals To’ change, and started feeling pity on him. He called ‘Equals To’ to the Story Sums city and invited him to his court. ‘Solutions’ told ‘Equals To’ that he was fine with him living in the Story Sums city. ‘Equals To’ was delighted to hear this and requested to change everyone’s perspective.

Now, every question was different from each other and created diversity in the city. This made everyone’s life interesting. ‘Solutions’ eventually realized that ‘Equals To’ was correct! ‘Solutions’ said that ‘Equals To’ was now a good-hearted person and was equal between the rest of the people in the city.
